Refugee Week 20th to 26th June 2011

"Different Pasts, Shared Future"
Each year Refugee Week offers an opportunity to consider the hardships refugees and asylum seekers encounter as well as the many benefits they bring to the countries who welcome them.

The recent disaster in Japan must surely remind all o f us that “There, but for the Grace of God, go I”. It is all too easy for some of us to feel immune or cushioned against the vagaries of war, famine and disaster… until they actually hit us.

Please take a moment in the coming weeks to visit our website or telephone the office for further details about our events and activities for Refugee Week. Sign up to undertake a “Simple Act” during Refugee Week and why not come along to our Celebration and Reflection event.

Contact Bev on 01752 254438 or visit the website for further details.

20 PLEDGES x 20 SIMPLE ACTS in 40 days
There are a host of free events being organised in Plymouth and full details will be available in mid-May. But you can start thinking NOW about how you or your group or organisation might like to get involved. We at Plymouth Centre for Faiths & Cultural Diversity are setting a CHALLENGE 4 PLYMOUTH to have at least 20 groups or individuals signed up for each of the 20 SIMPLE ACTS in the 40 days leading up to Refugee Week.

“It would be wonderful to think that an extra 400 people could be taking part in this year’s Refugee Week” said PCFCD’s Development Officer, Bev Smerdon. We believe that by encouraging lots of people to do these simple, seemingly insignificant acts – read a book, tell a story or share a dish – we can begin to make lasting changes to the world around us. It sounds simple - and it is! You can make your pledge by visiting www.pcfcd.co.uk and if you are not an internet user send your pledge to PCFCD, 3a Watts Road, St Judes, Plymouth PL4 8SE.
