Holocaust Memorial Day 2012 - Speak Up, Speak Out

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place on 27 January each year. The purpose of HMD is to honour and remember the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and the ongoing atrocities in Darfur. HMD gives us all a chance to look to our own lives and communities today. As soon as the differences between us stop being respected, persecution and discrimination can begin to build. HMD offers us the opportunity to celebrate the things which are sometimes used as reasons to separate us. By learning from the lessons of the past, we can create a safer, better future.

We would like you to add to the hundreds of HMD events already taking place nationwide by participating in existing events or organising your own. There is no right or wrong way to mark HMD and we will support you to organise events which suit your audience.

The first step is to claim your free Campaign Pack. It contains background information on HMD and the 2012 theme Speak Up, Speak Out, as well as a copy of the HMD 2012 film, a series of posters and important advice and guidance. The Campaign Packs are essential for anyone thinking or organizing an HMD event and can be claimed by clicking on the following link http://hmd.org.uk/resources/campaignpack or by calling the HMDT team on 0845 838 1883. Please feel free to forward these contact details to your network.

If you are already planning an event we would love to hear about it. Please complete our short online events form which will ensure your event adds weight to the national message and inspires other event organisers to arrange their own commemorations. Even if your event is closed to the general public, we still want to hear about it, so please complete the form, telling us in the event detail that this should not be published on the site.

Further information and resources can be found on our website, www.hmd.org.uk. We’re here to help – please call us on 0845 838 1883 or email enquiries@hmd.org.uk if you have any questions or would like to discuss your event ideas.

With best wishes,

Terry
